Amidst the rugged hills, towering mills and derelict factories in the heartland of England, a new sound is emerging; the sound of British born contemporary composer James Oldrini.
Raised in a small, historical, industrial town called Belper, Oldrini isn’t from the usual sort of background you’d expect a neo-classical composer to come from.
His recent past as a signed rock musician has seen him touring the country playing alongside the likes of The Kooks, Viva Brother, Tribes and The Bluetones as well as seen partying in the past with the odd celeb such as Amy Winehouse.
Oldrini is now entirely focused on his love and passion, writing thought-provoking contemporary scores with minimalist and ambient elements for production and commercial release and has had overwhelming support for his music on social media and the wider public.
His influences include contemporary and cinematic composers such as Ludovico Einaudi, Ólafur Arnalds, John Williams and Hans Zimmer as well as Holst and Arvo Pärt. He now prepares to join Nils Frahm’s popular ‘quiet revolution’ by releasing his own gorgeous, innocent, self-produced debut album, Enlighten, in 2016.
Oldrini currently composes for a couple of London based companies who pitch to and provide music for mainstream media. He also scored for a short film which was selected by the British Film Institute to be screened at a BFI film festival in London, marking it his first soundtrack to hit the big screen.
He has also written an original score for UK theatre production, Mind Games. Scoring music for production is something that he enjoys and is very keen to pursue alongside his commercial releases.
Still residing in his hometown, a short drive from the birthplace of the industrial revolution takes him out to the breathtaking scenery found in the Peak District, so inspiration is never in short supply. It’s only a matter of time before that sound emerging from deep within the Midlands begins to resonate across the UK and beyond!
